Interview with Lexi Miles

What genre do you write and why?

I write contemporary romance that ranges from sweet to spicy. Why, because romance has my heart. To me, there is nothing as powerful and moving as a couple falling head over heels in love. I think love makes us all strong and gives us the ability to face anything that comes our way. It is beautiful, awkward, and wonderfully fun. I take pleasure in everything about it!

Tell us about your latest book.

My latest book is titled Run. Originally Run started off as one of the short stories in my Wedding Nights’ Collection. As I was writing it, I realized that it needed to stretch its legs and become its own novel. Have you ever read/watched one of those stories that had you on the edge of your seat watching it unfold? Well as I was writing this one, I would go to bed late just to write the next part to see what was going to happen next in this Romance Suspense. I had such a great time with it, and I hope that everyone enjoys the ride!

Run: Judy thought she knew the man that she was going to wake up next to every day for the rest of her life. The moment that Blake and Judy begin their honeymoon she realizes that she might not know him at all. His past catches up with them, and things take a very dangerous turn. Will death do them part before she knows if he is really the man she is meant to be with?

How do you select the names of your characters?

My process of selecting names varies. In some cases, I have heard/saw a name that I noted which sparks the entire idea for a book. I am delighted when that happens. However, that is not usually the way things play out. So, most of my characters are unofficially named Chick or Dude/Hot Hero in the place of the names in the first few chapters until a name comes to me that suits my characters. Glamourous, I know. (giggles) Eventually one of the following happens. I get to know them and know the right match, a name gets stuck in my head, or an element in the story sparks the perfect fit for a name that I absolutely am nuts about. I will confess, I have scanned name lists (baby books, Pinterest, etc.), binge-watched TV on Netflix, or looked at objects/animals (paintings, tools, nature, cars, cats, color) to inspire the right name. I also love to have my various newsletter VIPs/readers/special groups help me pick the names. No matter how the names come to be I always find the naming of a character to be a lot of fun!

What's the best thing about being a writer?

There are several amazing things about being an author that I most certainly find incredible. I like to make other people smile. So, it is exhilarating to write a story and to share the thrilling journey with readers. Another thing I find rewarding about writing is that the world I create is completely open. I can write anything. That’s exciting! I also love the fact that I get to process what I am thinking and feeling as I weave a story together. Writing is a wonderful outlet for that! Adding to those, I get to live so many lives and share so much of the one that I am living all at the same time. That is such a wicked cool aspect of writing. There are so many more incredible things about being a writer, but the final thing that I will mention is that I thoroughly adore the fact that I can write from anywhere!

Who is your favourite character in your book and why?

Confession time, I love all of the characters that I have written. If not, they get dropped out of the books via the editing red pen. (giggles) However, I will say that one of the characters that I have written that I thoroughly enjoy in the new book Run is Romona. I really love her. She was a complete joy to write. She’s a bit of a wildcard. Those characters are always awesome to pen.

Why do you think readers are going to enjoy your book?

In Run or any of the other titles, I think that they will be able to step into the shoes of the characters. There are lots of true to life funny, sweet, awkward, and tender moments to connect with. There are also the grrr, heart-racing, and intense moments too!

Did you learn anything from writing your book that was unexpected?

While scribing Run, I recognized that I like to face things head on and that I have picked up a lot of useful skills for tricky situations from the TV and Movies that I watch. Trust me; as you read Run, it will make more sense. (giggles)

Interview with Lexi Miles
Who inspires you?

People who stand up for others, follow the dreams within their hearts, treat others with respect, and help anyone as much as they can!

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I am a hybrid, so I would say a planster. I storyboard everything and work from an outline, but sometimes until you are in the thick of writing a book you cannot know where some characters will take you. That is code for as much as I plan sometimes the stories have a mind of their own and I leave myself open to that!

When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

I am a YouTuber, so I am doing new things for that all the time. I also avidly pin things on Pinterest, play video games on my phone, and always fall into reading a bunch of romances (three going right now). I usually squeeze in binge-watching my favorite TV shows, cooking new recipes, and snagging chances to take long walks on the treadmill aka working out as frequently as I can. As often as possible you will find me embracing my inner mermaid (enjoying a hot bath or going for a swim). My most favorite thing to do when not writing is spending time with my bestie author Chloe Quinn and my pups!

Thank you, Writers and Authors, so much for having me stop in! Special and deep thank you to Jo! This has been a blast!
