The future of print on demand

Readers want it and they want it now. Gone are the days of having to wait for weeks for your book to be shipped. Electronic formats have made instant reading possible and the market is growing at a rapid speed.

Whilst ipads, kindles and a like are great, would't it be fantastic to be able to order a print version to read with your coffee and have it in you hand just moments later? Well, the Espresso Book Machine (EBM) by On Demand Books makes it possible. You can pick a book from the catalog, order it and have a copy fresh off the press in your hand in the matter of a few minutes.

EBM Overview:

The patented Espresso Book Machine® (EBM) makes a paperback book in minutes, at point of need. Through its EspressNet® digital catalog of content, books can be ordered online or onsite at bookstores, libraries, and non-bookstore retailers. Over seven million in-copyright and public-domain titles are available on the network. The technology is also ideal for self and custom publishing.

This new technology is good news for authors who want to self publish their work. You can upload your files to the site (more details at http://ondemandbooks.com/self_publishing_submission_guidelines.php) and make your book available from the various machines set up across the world. The EBM will transform your work into a paperback book complete with a full color cover and a black and white interior, indistinguishable from books produced by traditional publishers. No minimum print runs, you set your own retail price... definitely worth investigating more as you look at your publishing options.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to comment :) I hope this idea gets developed more so that print books become even more available especially given how easily e-books can be purchased now. I'm sure this kind of machine would have success in places like waiting rooms, airports etc...
