Speeding up your
computer can be done in several ways. There are many expensive ways of course
like increasing the RAM, upgrading the processor, etc. but these may cost you a
few hundred dollars. If you have the cash with you, then this is the easiest
option. As far as the cheapest options, here are few of them (including some
free ones):
1.
Limit the number of startup programs: If you limit the
number of the startup programs, then the boot time will reduce. This can be easily
done by using the MSCONFIG utility. The process of opening the utility is also
simple. Just press the windows key and R key (win+r) to open the run dialog.
Then type in “msconfig” in the box and press enter. This will open up the
msconfig utility. Here you can check which programs should be started up at
boot and which will not be started. You need not worry about them as they can
be started up as and when required.
2.
Next, you can set the waiting time for the default
operating system at the boot menu to speed up the boot time. You can also
change the default boot drive to speed it up in the BIOS settings. The next set
of changes can be made to the hard disk itself. It is evident that the fastest
performance can be achieved with a faster read-write hard disk and this can be
done if you defragment the same. There are many free applications available,
which can do this task or you could use the windows defragmenter.
3.
You can even modify the plugins for a program that loads
by default. These plugins can slow the loading time for PDF reader, Photoshop,
Word or any other program. By reducing the plugins at loading, you can load
faster.
4.
You can speed up your computer by deleting the temporary
files and temporary internet files. By deleting these unnecessary files, you
can increase the speed of computer.
5.
Do not to save anything on desktop, as it would slow your
computer. You can even deselect the option to display files and folders on the
desktop to reduce the clutter.
6.
Also, keep maximum free space on your computer by deleting
unnecessary files. The computer converts the free space to virtual RAM, which
increases the speed. You can also increase the limit on free space to be used
as virtual Ram by going to the control panel and selecting the option for the
virtual memory. On windows, it is known as the page file, whereas in Linux it
is called the swap memory. You can allocate a specific amount of virtual memory
for Windows from any of the partitions, whereas in Linux, there is generally a
separate partition called the swap.
7.
Keep minimum files in the C drive or where the operating
system is installed. This is to ensure a faster read-write time for the files
and folders in the system, which translates to a faster computer.

There are lots of ways to speed up our computers, but the most important thing is to have installed very good maintenance software on it.
