Think of going to the store and having to decide between two objects. They both do exactly the same thing. Yet, you know one is better than the other and you want to confirm it before spending your money. Checking the reviews and other people opinions and likings (or dislikes) on the item helps you narrow down and decide on which item will meet your needs and likes.

The same thing goes with book reviews. As a reader myself, unless the cover and blurb has possessed me to the point of clicking the “buy now” button, I scroll down to look at how other people enjoyed the reviews, especially the verfied ones.

If a lot of people are rating 1-2 stars on a book, it comes down to whether your willing to take that chance and read it OR you simply move away to the next book that catches interest.

Overall, I think book reviews are what makes readers know what they're getting into and if their hard earned money is worth spending. The higher the reviews, especially with majority being 4-5 stars, can guarantee a good read and time well spent. Those reviews are what will help the reader click “BUY ME” and contribute to the growth of book sales.
