What genre
do you write and why?
I actually write two different genres: historical romance
(or what I like to call historical romantic suspense) and psychological
suspense thrillers. Although these
genres seem diametrically opposed, there are some definite similarities—strong,
compelling characters who draw my readers in and inspire either love or hate,
and a powerful suspense theme.
Obviously, it’s the suspense that’s in the forefront of my thrillers and
is a backdrop in my historicals, but I can’t imagine writing a book without
that mystery element.

Tell us about your
latest book.
My
Heart’s Desire is set in Regency England, as well as in the Thousand
Islands, which are sprinkled on the Saint Lawrence River between the US and
Canada. As the book cover says, “Never
were there two more unlikely people to fall in love” than Lady Alexandria Cassel
and Drake Barrett, the future Duke of Allonshire. Alex is about to make her debut into society,
and has about as little interest in doing so as she does in meeting all the
noblemen her parents have selected for her as potential suitors. And Drake?
He’s a nobleman by birth and a sea captain by choice. Little does he know, when he sails his
merchant ship up the Thames en route to Canada, that he has a stowaway on
board—a beautiful, rebellious young woman who’s running away from an unwanted
future to seek adventure and freedom.
And Alex, ever impulsive and untraditional, is completely unaware that
the brig she’s chosen as her transport to that freedom is captained by a
cynical man who feels nothing but disdain for women—especially those of noble
birth. The stage is set for one combustible
relationship!
What advice do you
have for other writers?
Write because you love it; because it’s who
you are and because it’s something you feel compelled to do. Don’t do it for money or accolades. There’s just too much blood, sweat, tears,
and time invested for that. And if the
reasons are right, don’t let anyone or anything dissuade you.
What's your
favourite quote about writing/for writers?
My absolute all-time favorite writing quote
is: “There are three rules to writing a
novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what
they are.” – Somerset Maugham

Why do you
think readers are going to enjoy your book?
I believe my readers will bond with my characters, just
as I do, and be drawn into their world and their lives—and the danger those
lives are in.
How long did it take you to
write your book?
It always takes me about a year to write a book. I’m a raging perfectionist. I spend months on research, character and
plot development, and a semblance of an outline that I create even though I
know it will change throughout the writing of the book. Then, I write and rewrite as I go. I give my all to every book I write because I
can’t do it any other way. And that
takes time, which is why it’s a book a year for me.
Who inspires you?
Always and without question, my family. They’re not only my greatest blessing, but
they are an integral part of my writing.
Whether it’s brainstorming, tweaking a line or two, or reading my
manuscripts before they’re transformed into finished books, my family is always
there for me, cheering me on.
What is your work in
progress? Tell us about it.
Right on the heels of My
Heart’s Desire’s September release, will be the October release of my
historical romance, Samantha. You’ll meet Sammy as Drake’s precocious
15-year-old sister in My Heart’s Desire,
and watch her grow into a romantic breath-of-fresh-air in her own story, set
three years later. Sammy is about to
launch into her first London Season, but her goal is not to immerse herself in
the glittering whirl of balls nor to revel in the long line of noblemen
knocking at her door. It’s to find her
hero—the knight-in-shining-armor she’s imagined forever. However, Remington Worth, the man who walks
into her life, is anything but the hero of a romantic novel. He’s a notorious womanizer with a secret
life—one that’s fraught with danger and leaves no room for love or marriage.
When you’re
not writing, how do you spend your time?
I’m a diehard Yankees fan, and rarely miss watching a
game. I’m also an avid crossword puzzle
solver and Sudoku player—they keep my mind sharp and my self-competitive nature
satisfied. Most of all, I love spending
time with my family and playing with my Pomeranian, who actually owns the house
and just lets us live here.

I truly enjoy books that I can relate to the characters, as Ms. Kane states, so I am putting this on my TBR list. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading it at the moment. I love that her characters are never flat. They have interesting personality traits, and their own ways of interacting with the other characters. I'll be posting a full review of the book soon, but I will tell you this... there are some hot love scenes in this book.
