Book blurb:
What if a slave who knows only pain and evil is the only one who can restore the Sacred Balance of the mortal and divine realms? Kyr has never even dared to think of disobeying Dauthaz, his vicious, all-powerful Master called the Soul-Drinker, yet the Star-Seer’s Prophecy foretells that he is the only one who can end the Soul-Drinker’s horrific reign. Hunted by his vengeful slave-brother, Gauday, and guided by the Warrior Mage, Rajani, Kyr begins a journey beyond anything he has ever known, painfully discovering new truths of human kindness and divine forgiveness.
Ultimately, his frozen heart melts and he finds himself in love with Jolanya—only to learn that his beloved is forbidden to him by her vows as a Priestess of the Banished Goddess, Zhovanya.
Author Bio
Rahima Warren |
Rahima, born 12/16/1946, has been reading fantasy and science fiction since she learned to read, thanks to her father, who left F&SF magazines lying around the house. Her favorite authors include Ursula LeGuin, Charles De Lint, Sheri S. Tepper, Carol Berg, C.J. Cherryh and Patricia McKillip.
In 1999, she wrote a short story in her journal, just to get an inner fantasy character named Kyr to quit bothering her. Instead, he took over her life and demanded that she write his full story. She had to keep writing to find out what happened to him.
After three exciting years of ignoring the laundry and staying up late to write, she finally reached the conclusion of Kyr’s story.
Now knowing what the story was about, she began reshaping and revising the trilogy-length story, titled The Star-Seer’s Prophecy. To learn the craft of fiction-writing, she studied many books about fiction-writing, and hired an editor. Together they worked through a third draft of the trilogy. Then she applied all she had learned to revising and polishing Dark Innocence*, the first book of the trilogy.
After many revisions, critiques by readers, and a final edit by her publisher, Dark Innocence, was published by Rose Press on Sept. 21, 2011. This is her first published work, aside from a few poems and essays in very small journals.
